The Department of Genetics offers one of the best undergraduate majors in the United States. As part of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Academic Common Market (where students from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi and Tennessee can major in Genetics at UGA while paying in-state tuition), our major attracts some of the brightest students from the Southeast as well as from the rest of the United States and abroad. By providing a firm grounding in the natural sciences along with a comprehensive background in molecular genetics, evolutionary biology and genomics, our students are superbly prepared to compete for admission to graduate and professional schools or, alternatively, to immediately enter the workforce.
